The MRINZ provides practical clinical research experience and training opportunities which can contribute to, or form the entirety of higher education study including PhDs, Masters, and Diplomas. This is made possible by close ties with Victoria University of Wellington, Otago University, Imperial College London, Montepellier University France and the University of Groningen Netherlands. We are also proud to be authorised by NZQA to award our own Medical Doctorate (MD).

The MRINZ publishes over 52 peer-reviewed publications a year in high-impact medical journals including The Lancet, JAMA, and NEJM. In terms of field-weighted citation impact, and publications in the top 10% journal percentiles by SJR; we have consistently outperformed the eight New Zealand Universities over the past 5 years. One of our guiding principles is that research must have the potential to change clinical practice. As a result, our research has played a pivotal role advancing care in several fields of medicine, and we have written and contributed to treatment guidelines such as the NZ 2020 Adult Asthma Guidelines.

Doctor of Medicine (MD)

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme is a ’higher’ degree based on original research in a field of medicine.  The aim of this course is to allow medical graduates to produce a substantial body of published original research in a field of medicine.

PhD

At any given time MRINZ is hosting a number of PhD projects conducted within our clinical trials programme. Candidates may be studying towards their qualification under an international organisation, or with our partner institution Victoria University of Wellington.
