Nethmi attended medical school at the University of Edinburgh. Following graduation, she worked for the NHS in Scotland before returning home to New Zealand. She is currently doing an MD conducting research in the field of asthma, a disease which has a significant burden on the New Zealand population. She also supports MRINZ research on other respiratory conditions of public health significance including COPD, Cold, and Flu.
