Vacancy: Research Assistant, Intensive Care Research

The Medical Institute of New Zealand (MRINZ) is looking for a Research Assistant to join our Wellington ICU Research team. The MRINZ is an independent medical research organisation dedicated to investigating the causes of important public health problems in New Zealand and internationally.

Deadline: 16 August 2020

Contract: part-time 0.8 FTE, fixed term for one year

Summary of role: Responsible for co-ordination and administrative support of intensive care clinical research activities

Relevant Skills / Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or other scientific/ nursing disciplines
  • Computer systems literacy to encompass all major office software such as Microsoft office 365 and adobe reader and capacity to learn others
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Basic procedural and laboratory skills
  • Organised and has ability to prioritise and escalate issues promptly

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist the ICU Research team and the wider MRINZ ICU team in the undertaking of research activities
  • Co-ordinate the processing and flow of study products, supplies, samples and data in accordance with study protocols
  • Maintenance of ICU study documentation and filing, including tracking systems and study folders
  • Data collection, data entry and reconciliation
  • Preparation or review of study related documents (informed consent forms, study worksheets, bedside folders, study packs, case report forms, database entries to ensure protocol adherence and accurate, verifiable data collection
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as needed (including locality assessments, Māori consultation documentation, audit preparation) under direct supervision of the ICU research manager or research coordinators
